Hmmm. Wondering about LJ Friends List Ettiquette, this morning. I mean, I've added people I know, and I have not been added in return for numerous reasons. One: Inactive Journal. I can deal with that. Two...who the hell knows. I just find it rude.

In the meantime: Hey [livejournal.com profile] theninjakitten! You know the guy who used to run IGU, right? Can you tell him to put it back up, please? Tired of seeing 13 pages about people I can't stand on Snark. Let's see some praise on the Net for once! :)

I don't think there is etiquette. If someone adds you to their list, you're not required to add them to yours. Sometimes it's a matter of convenience: I have a little over 100 people on my Friends list, and that's after cutting 33% of them. Sometimes, someone - especially someone you know well and talk to often - doesn't add you because they don't get any additional benefit from reading your journal, because you tell them everything privately anyway. Sometimes, people prefer to read certain journals individually.

If someone doesn't add you to their Friends list, it isn't necessarily a slight, and in fact it probably isn't a slight. Find it rude if you like, but the person at the other end probably doesn't see it that way.

Friends Etiquette?

Honestly, I have people who've added me as a "friend" whom I haven't added in turn. Usually, I still read their LJ (assuming I know who the heck the person is, and/or the LJ is interesting), but I just don't add them to my Friends list immediately.

Admittedly partly because I don't look over my "Friend of" list that often. :) I'm a slacker.

I add someone to my journal because I want to read their journal, not because I want them to read mine.

That said, there is a nice ego gratification to see a big friends list, and generally just adding me will cause me to add you to see why you might have added me.

I have occasionally removed people from my friends list, not because they are not my friend, but because they are insanely prolific and I can't read other friends through their posts

I'm pretty sure it was a girl who used to run IGU, but aside from that I've forgotten who it was. I think she's one of the columnists on Skotos, though... the one who wasn't naudiz or vaspider...

Hmm.

Sibermaus. She posts under the same name on Snark. Considering she talked about closing IGU in the past, and that the board was pretty dead anyway, I doubt it'll be back. It's merged with OGR in any case so just read those.

Make that STC not OGR. The Storyteller's Circle.
