Okay, so I went gaming. Oh. Dear. God. Things went to Heck. Seriously. Like, I don't know how we're going to pull ourselves out of this.
..
So, to begin. The party rested and identified a few items, figuring out what to do next. Rod, the Party Leader, said we should split up. I would teleport myself, Eric (Our Rogue) and Brandon (OUr Paladin) to a faraway city to get supplies and money while Rod, Christine (Fighter), Mike (Dwarf Fighter), and Bob (Cleric)went to take back a small tower so we could meet up that night.
John, the GM, starts with the other group first. Now, we're all around 15-17th level. They get attacked by a pair of high-level ORc Rangers with magic and items loaded for bear. First round, the Orcs jump off a small cliff to meet the party. One makes it, the other fails the Jump check. Mike charges the one still standing (Instead of the fallen, prone one), misses, and gets attacked...like 8 times, and is slaughtered. Bob hits Mike's killer with a Destruction Spell, killine one Orc Ranger. The other rips Bob apart. 2nd round, two party members dead. Rod and Christine barely kill the other one (Christine got reduced to 4 HP in the one volley of attacks by one Orc, and fled), and stop outside the Tower, to try and wait for us. When Rod said to meet /at/ the Tower.
Back to us, in the City. We teleport outside the temple to Brandon's diety. Eric and I wander off to shop and sell stuff, while Brandon goes to talk to his superiors. But, there's a new Superior in town, and Brandon and most of the party (Save me, but I have connections there) are wanted for Treason for breaking a treaty by fighting the evil that's taken over this fort we've been attacking. Paladin that he is, Brandon turns inself to the new Superior, another Paladin. The female paladin doesn't listen to his explinations, and detains him in the Temple.
Eric and I decide to meet the party and tell them Brandon's been arrested. We teleport to the Tower, as we were told...only to find outselves smack-dab in the middle of a small orc force. I use the sprurise round to teleport us out of there, back to the cave we're hiding in.
In the cave, we get a message given to us where Rod and Christine are. We meet up, and decide the next day go back to the CIty to save Brandon. Now, I was all for waiting for the trial and public execution I was sure was gonna happen, but Rod decided we'd sneak in to the temple and get him out. So, Rod and eric sneak in, and sap/knock out a few guards to get to the cells. While Eric, dressed as a guard, is doing lookout duty, Rod comes across Brandon's superior, the woman paladin. She shouts 'assassin' and Rod lays into her with his bow, killing her.
*cries*
Anyway...Caphis decides to stay, and be tried after all. The rest of us, fighting off/knocking out low-level paladins and guards without killing them (saps and Web spells, kids), escape and get back to the Cave.
But, we're fucking hosed. No allies, wanted for treason, and when the Paladins find the superior's body (because Rod cast Invisibility on her corpse), it's gonna get worse. We lost 3 party members, and while I finally made 17th level, I won't last long.
Ouch. Am tired.

OK, here's what you do. If you're gonna be tried for treason, you might as well go all out. Find the nearest enemy town to the town your idiot paladin is being held in and go there. Tell the people in charge that the other town is in the grip of madness and evil. As they are natural enemies, they'll believe it easily. Raise an army and go back to the castle of nasty things you were going to take this week because the rest of your players were stupid. Do it quick enough and prove the town the paladin is being held in is under the evil spell of whoever and then maybe you can pull off a massive sign of goodness by having the two enemy towns come to peace when the enslaved town thanks the other town for their help.
That, or open a dimensional gate to the world the Toon RPG is set in and flood the courtroom with anthropomorphic silverwear and talking chickens that cannot die. In the commotion, sneak the paladin out. Knock him out with a blow to the head if he won't come. Do the "look over there" bit if you have to.
Option three: go to the castle of evil and join their side.
Option four: get the DM really drunk.
There, that should solve all your problems.

Maybe if you led some trolls into the town square with a trail of dead chicken bits and then loot all the nearby houses for evidence that your paladin is innocent. Oh sure, most of the houses won't have anything, but you might as well enjoy yourselves with some mindless violence. It's like that scene from Life of Brian where they're gonna stone a man for saying "Jehovah" and he gets told he's only going to make it worse for himself if he doesn't shape up, so he asks HOW he can make it worse for himself since he's going to be stoned.
