.Some things amuse me. While last night's actual game was a cause of stress on a lot of levels, the details of which I am not gonna go into right now, there was something else on the RL gamer front that amused the hell out of me.
Okay, so Friday. I was at another game, where Mike was looking through some papers he had, pulls out a pamphlet about Eberron, and said 'So, anyone getting this crappy game?' Eberron is a new setting for D&D, which is coming out in a few weeks.
Me: Wait, weren't you singing the praises of that two weeks ago? (Because he was.)
Mike: Nah, it's crappy. All the people online said so. It's all different, with technology and all that unusual stuff.
Me: Oh? What about the book didn't the people like when they READ it? It came out already?
Mike: They just saw the little bits the website gave. Hobbymasters has no pre-orders for it, Realms has no pre-orders because it's so bad.
Me: So you're forming an opinion based on something you've never read from others who never read it?
Mike: You gonna get it?
Me: I might, because I'm not, you know, a Mindless Sheep who follows the proles on the message boards for every little thing without a full basis for their opinions. If I read it and don't like it, so be it, but I prefer to keep an open mind on it.
Yeah, I get a little bitchy sometimes. And Mike's had it coming, he really has.
So, I had my other game Saturday at Realms. Bob, who owns/runs the store was there, so I approached him. Okay, I said, can you place something on pre-order for me? I get paid this coming Friday, so I know what kind of cash I have. Bob's cool about that, and he knows I only order stuff when I full-on intend to get it. He asked what.
Me: *quiet voice, bracing for i* Eberron.
Bob: Oh, you too? *grin*
Me: Huh?
Bob: I have, with you, about four orders for the main book already. One person has already pre-paid it.
Me: I would now, but I get paid in a week.
Bob: It's okay, I trust you.
Me: But Mike said you had no orders...
Bob: *chuckle* Oh, we tell Mike different things than actual reality. He has a lot of faulty info, and he tends to pre-order stuff he doesn't end up buying.
Now, I know the store is struggling, really. I hope to hold onto that place for as long as possible, so having non-moving merchandise hurts it. Hence my very few actual orders.
Me: Ah. He told me different.
Bob: Well, that's because Mike's a fucking idiot.
And you know? I felt better. :) Now, maybe I'll hate Eberron. Maybe it will be a waste of money. But, I will keep an open mind on it til I get it. Besides, what little I have read interest and amuses me, since it's the kind of things I like in games. But that's me.
Sorry, just wanted to get that out.
