Suggestions, again?

Ok, guys. This is a minor call for help on my part, and of no real earth-shattering consequence. Just that I'm sitting in the library at work, bored out of my skull before my shift starts at 10, reading through my 3rd Ed Player's Handbook for the ten-thousandth time. Let me explain the sitch:

George R. R. Martin, on his website, has a message to not ask when the next book in his 'Song of Ice and Fire' series is coming out. The prospects sppear to say next March. His last book for it came out in November, 2000.

Robert Jordan, in my fervent prayers for him to actually move his plot forward for theb 'Wheel of Time' series, I think his next book is this November.

On the radio this morning, the publishers announced there is no release date set yet for J.K. Rowling's next Harry Potter book, since the publishers haven't seen it yet. The last book came out sometime in 2000, I forget when exactly. (She's too busy with the damn movies to get working, apparently.) By this point, I'm ready to fly out to England to kick butt over the wait time. (Well, that, and I can visit TsunamiUK at the same time, which is not a bad prospect at all.)

So, the gist of this? I'm out of stuff to read. Suggestions, anyone?

Well, there only two books that I'm currently reading. One is in Elizabeth Haydon's Symphony of Time series. Requiem for the Sun is the book that I'm stalking my mailbox for. Rhapsody, Prophecy and Destiny are the other three. And I'm debating going to the bookstore for the rest of the Dune prequels. I've read one and, it's not badly written, I admit. And it's much easier to get into than the actual series. May not be what you're interested in, but...it's a suggestion. :)

Robert Ludlum's Bourne series.
  1. The Bourne Identity
  2. The Bourne Supremacy
  3. The Bourne Ultimatum
So far, I would call them the definitive spy novels. My brother and I have a few minor disputes over weapons, but on the whole, they rock. (And of course, any security procedures described therein are no doubt seriously out-of-date; they wouldn't be allowed to publish up-to-date ones, let alone show them on television or movies... oh, and the series is from the late eighties. Still quite good though. I love 'em.) ;)

Who cares?! You have an excuse to come see me! GRAB IT!

Or...in my exalted position as a former bookstore worker, I should have plenty of suggestions. Off the top of my head I'd recommend some of my favourites, like The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath or The Ice Storm by Rick Moody (way better than the film and the film rocks). At the moment I'm reading the Dreamcatcher by Stephen King which is way better than I expected. I read How to be Good by Nick Hornby recently too, which was fab, but is quite grounded in English culture, not sure how well it would translate.

Grab me for more suggestions if ya like, but my best suggestion? Browse the shelves for a cover that grabs you, deliberately look for something you wouldn't normally read. The freshness alone will make it fun, and there's nothing better than being taken by surprise.

Density of Souls or Snow Garden? (I can't remember the second's title) by Christopher Rice.

And you'd better not go see [livejournal.com profile] tsunamiuk without me! I mean it!

((And an lj hint. To get the little image like I used, when using a lj person's name. in the normal triangle brackets, put lj user=name.))

Have I recc'd you the Wraeththu trilogy by Storm Constantine yet?

I'm currently reading "Sir Apropos of Nothing" by Peter David. Good for punny humour.

Try some Melanie Rawn stuff, if you have time. Stick with the Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies. She hasn't finished the Exiles series yet, and who know when she's going to get around to that!

Oh, and please tell me, you've read "MISTS OF AVALON." If you haven't, march over ot your local library and take it out right now!

Enjoy!

Read anything by Laurell K. Hamilton. The Anita Blake books are incredible (The Lunatic Cafe, Narcissus in Chains, Obsidian Butterfly, there are quite a few), and the Merry Gentry novels (A Kiss of Shadows, A Caress of Twilight) are...just out of this world in terms of writing.

Hey, without much else to do, reading is a big thing right now. =)
