And, even with the lack of sleep, I'm really bouncy right now. Just feeling very cool, and I game tonight, and hang out and all that stuff. So, to do something constructive (translation: waste time before lunch), I figured I'd have a little fun with commentary.

Okay, where to begin...

Authority #5. Okay, to cut to the chase, this issue is proof of exactly why I didn't want DC to cancel Doom Patrol. Because now that that book is over, Tang Eng Huat (Or tan Eng Huat; I blank on the name spelling at the present) is free to do other books, which is the kind of nightmare that makes me wake up and find the nearest teddy bear.

Why, because Huat's artwork

BLOWS!

It is some of the ugliest artowrk I've ever seen: muddled, choppy, and completely illegible. Everyone's face reminded me of The Mummy, and his action scenes made little to no sense. It's the kind of art style that says "To draw each page, I smoke a big fat bag of crack and scratch my indescipherable CRAP on the artboard by clenching a Sharpie tightly between my ass cheeks." And, of course, some of the message boards are drooling over this artwork they call "fresh, and energetic."

Fuck no, and fuck you, Huat. This is the kind of mindless prole reaction I have seen to other 'hot' srtists whose talent couldn't fill any of the spaces between my teeth. Like Pollina, Liefeld, Quitely...it's like the more obviously BAD someone's artwork is, the more some mouth-breathing brain-dead fuckwads go ga-ga over it. Enough is enough, this shit ends Now, folks. Atr this one day, this one time, this one thing, I am right.

*Kyle calms down. Slowly* Okay, feeling better now that I got that out of my system...

Ah, screw it. Get the bad artist books off my chest.

New Mutants #4: I'm going to reread this, and close my eyes and pretent that it's Phil Jiminez doing the art, or Josh Middleton. Good news: Keron Grant is done after this issue, in which his artwork looks rushed and hasty and even more off than usual. I wish him well, now get off what is possibly one of my new favorite books, NOW, because you're art is bringing the book down.

Okay, outside the art. The story follows what's been going on: New Mutants, and gathering the players for the end of the storyline over issues 5 and 6. I...think this is the weakest issue thus far, due to the art. But, it does bring Karma (now in new Confirmed Lesbian Strength) back into the x-fold, and follows cleanly from the Mekanix Mini a few months back. (Yes, in Mekanix, there /was/ a Moment. I like how CHristina and Nunzio acknowledged that.) Dani is still one of my fave, and the new guy, David, has an interesting little power, being able to dupe the skills of anyone he's near. A sample.

Evil Pro-human group member: I'm not afraid of any muties. I'm a black belt.
David, his powers kicking in: So am I, now. *proceeds to layeth the smacketh down on the bad guy*

I knew this issue would be slow going, so I wasn't too upset. It's the next two I'm looking forward to.

Trouble #3: Terry Dodson draws pretty people, while Mark Millar's writing makes them ugly. Stuff happens, I knew that ending was coming, and Aunt May is still Teh_Slut!

Hawkman: Forgot the issue number. And this seems to be slightly cross-over-ish, as it features the plotline/characters/antagonists from the next big JSA storyline, Black Reign. This issue is about Carter encountering Black Adam, who is one of the coolest anti-heroes around, bar none, who is starting his own group of 'heroes who don't toe the line.' I.e. they kill villains, ect, which is where the conflict will come in, naturally. We get an explination of why Northwind looks different, now (like [livejournal.com profile] paleltlspider said, like the Kingdom Come Hawkman), and how the JSA will become aware of this. This was the 'Hawkman, join with me, come to the Dark Side' issue. Nicely done overall.

It also makes an interesting point. Black Adam isn't...really a villain. Long story. He's a warrior from a time (Ancient Egypt) where execution for wrongdoing wasn't considered inhumane, and he is in a world where 'no killing' is the rule, not the exception. I want to see where this conflict goes when it hits the JSA.

Uncanny X-Men: Okay, the art of Phillip Tan and his inker leaves smudges on my thumbs as I turn the pages. It's not 'bad' really, just ink-heavy, which some artists seem okay with. As for the story...I've learned to tune out the stuff I'm not really into (like, the Plot), and focus instead on the aspects that do interest me. Namely, anything with Juggernaut in it, anything with Northstar in it, and the running storyline of why Lorna has ended up like she has (so long as they get away from the Alex/Annie sappy moments, I can work with this.).

Exiles: Welcome back, Mr. Winick. And, for your return, you give us a nice little treat here. Like where, exactly, Sasquatch comes from. We don't know what in her timeline was changed that made her go OUtside of Time, but after too long, you finally give us some idea into her head. Good. Thank you. Let's keep going with this.

I know I bought more comics than this yesterday. Just haven't had the chance to go through them all. I will, eventually.

I was struck by the awful, ugly artwork in Authority and the stilted cut-out look of the art on NM. I was like 'Man, I wait all week for this?' Thank God the NM guy is a temp. If Huat stays, I'm not buying Authority anymore until he's gone.

i wish he didn't destroy lorna. Lorna thought that Alex was dead but didn't date, didn't marry, didn't do anything but think about him, and then Austen has Alex come back to want Annie? What a fucking jerk. If I was Lorna, I would have gone nuts too. Poor Lorna, I feel bad for her.

And Hawkman is my man. You can have funny lookin Hawkman. :)

I liked the fact that Jean was one of Heather's Alpha Flight. (points to the girl in green and yellow Alpha costume*

Please don`t hurt me if this comes through twice- stupid IE. Are you gonna do these reviews every week? (or have been and I just missed it) I can`t read any comics right now, don`t even have a broadband connection I can abuse to infringe copyrights until I get home to my paper copies, so spoilerfilled reviews give me vicarious joy. ;)

Though, saw a preview for the next New X-Men. Jiminez is back. Yay! :)
