Do I really hate the Net? Nah. Kinda. Um...

See, sometimes, I look around, and I Find Things. Not things in the way of Something Awful. I leave that to Raka. ;) Just...it's creepy.

Case in point http://www.atariage.com

I found this Saturday night, on request of a friend who was looking for something. And, lo and behold, you can find emulators here for all the Atari systems.

And 99% of the games.

I'm not nostalgic by nature, despite the 95% accurate photographic memory. I disdain those who constantly harp on How Good Things Were Before, as opposed to now, when I'm usually involved heavily in the subject in question (q.v. GarouMUSH). But, I was feeling just slightly nostalgic that night, so I downloaded, and played some old 2600 games.

Yes. You heard me. The Atari 2600.

I look at the games for the system now, living in a world of DVD players and 64 bit systems as /standard,/ and I wonder 'What in the name of Sweet Baby Jesus were we thinking when these games came out?' Controllers with 1 button. I haven't touched one since 1985.

Now, I rememebr why.

What does this mean? Fucking A, I grew up. This blows.

And that's one system. This is after I've tracked down enough emulators and Roms to keep my busy for a good year. And this is the source of my malaise about the Net right now: It's all there, just in reach, requiring no effort to obtain and keep.

Simple put: It's too easy.

I mean, I still have a standing quest to one day sit down and see the Star Wars Holiday Special from 1977-78-whatever. Masochistic, I know, but I've been wantint to see if I can withstand it. I can. I'm strong enough.

I know the truth: I can just doanload it somewhere. Someone has the thing in a .rm file. That scares me.

I mean second case: One time, a few years ago, I planned to do a joke e-mail, in answer for all those 'we found this naughty reference in some disney animated movie.' Besides the fact that most of the proles looking for them are seeing what they want to see instead o9f the truth, I just found it to be a severe case of success jealousy, and strove to deconstruct something else with no viable evidence, in retaliation. My target: The Smurfs.

I meant it as a joke: Look, see how the Smurfs parallel Communism! I was going to pull all this circumstantial evidence out of my ass, and see how far it went.

Then I did a Net search. The result?

I meant it to be a joke. This guy who did this page is for real.

Point the second: Despite my thoughts, nothing I think is original. It's all been done before, it's all been said, and I really have nothing to add. Any interests I have/had, others have them too, and with the Net, they can be found. Easily, too.

The Net made it too easy.

Oh, cool!
