Worst Song Ever Written?
Nov. 1st, 2002 09:27 amThere was something I remember reading a while back, either a book or an article about the worst songs ever written. I'm not sure if it was limited to the 20th Century or not, but it was a discussion on bad songs, and who such-and-such song was one of the worst. I'm going to swear it was a book, because thinking of the text makes me evoke memories of the Barned and Noble in Freehold, which I really haven't set foot in in at least a year (the one closer to my house is bigger, and, well, closer).
I remember one of the writer's favorite targets was Richard Harris' "MacArthur Park," as possible the worst song of all time. (I wondered if the writer had never heard of Oasis by this point, and I know it was pre-Eminem).
But...I kinda like that song. But, for me, I like the Donna Summer version. I've never heard the original version, but the 'disco' song I know called MacArthur Park is pretty neat.
SO, my thoughts are this before I head to my shift, and maybe this will keep you guys occupied, and get some interesting responses in my mailbox by the time I hit lunch at 2.
1) Is this article thing I'm thinking of, about the worst songs ever, an article, or a book? If so, where is it?
2) What do you think is the worst song ever written?
3) Which song do you think would be vastly improved by adding a background techno beat?
(Then again, a friend of mine from college and I entertained ourselves madly my Senior year by random performances of 'Havah Nagilah: Extended Dance Mix.' Funny, but there's still that residual guilt because Jeanette and I were so, so, so much the goyim. But hey, hymns just don't work as Techno. Yet.)
