Okay, minor unfairness thing here.

Finally, something comes along on Fandom Wank that I would love to comment to and they're back to not allowing anonymous posting. I so knew she was batshit and self-absorbed, since I read her books.

Remember: Friends don't let friends read Robin Hobb (especially that Farseer trilogy. I would only recommend those books if I had stock shares in Prozac and wanted to get profits.)

I know its an oyster/snail thing, but I actually DID like Robin Hobb. I wasn't taking prozac when I was reading it.

I thought she had fairly realistic characters and they did interesting things. What more can I say in a book. Hobb is one of the few authors I buy in Hardback.

Just my .02

Do you think she marches in lockstep wearing HOBBnail boots?

She seems deranged, yet oddly insane with a piquant dose of SSS. :) Which is 1 S less than is in Schutzstaffel, but not nearly as militant. :)

Do I have a point? No, not really -- only this: she's a nutter so nutty that a Payday bar fears for its niche.

I read the Farseer trilogy. Now, conflict does bring story, but most of the series was just unending misery, and almost everything Fitz did made me want to smack him.

Then came the third book, where by halfway through it I was begging God to make me suddenly illiterate. It just kept dragging, and the ending just made me want to drink paint thinner in sheer joy (/sarcasm).

So she hates 'x', has no willpower to resist 'x' and therefore rants about how 'x' is awful, horrible and a bane on society.

Hmmm. Where have I heard that before?

A character that you want to smack no matter what he does? I got the same thing from John Updike's Rabbit novels, though in that case I think it was deliberate. If you had any idea in your head for what the proper or right thing to do in any situation was, rest assured, the characters would do the exact opposite.

I think they disallowed anon comments due to the Potterdammerung. :(

I have an account over there. Never read the author though.

BTW, who the hell is Robin Hobb?

I actually googled "Potterdammerung" thinking I missed out on yet another internet meme. While I didn't find The True Source, I do agree it is an appropriate term. :)
