Both times I chewed my gun and held on really tightly to the arm rests.
Cathy, I never knew that you were a clueless, pansy-ass Al-Qaeda operative. :p *runs away*
I guess I should take notes from this thread as well, i'll be flying for the 1st time in December (NJ to CA too) and i'm sort of not looking forward to it.
I love flying, actually. Particularly the takeoff and landing.
There's always the 'Die Hard' remedy: when you get off (or before you get on?) squeeze your toes into balls on the carpet. Bruce's character said it worked....
I would watch the A-Team for suggestions. B.A. Baracus had a desperate fear of flying. Generally they drugged him.
The drug angle seems to work well. My boss has a terrible fear of flying, and before he gets on a plane he takes valium and then drinks alchohol (can you tell he is a child of the 60s?) then he is quite mellow on the plane.
I have a terrible fear of heights. Terrible. I had to fly once, then chose to fly again. So, two round trips in a plane; one in a large airliner, one in a little puddlejumper. The airliner, which is what you'll be on, you hardly ever notice it moved unless you hit air turbulence. I just brought a book and concentrated on it. I'd suggest bringing a book you KNOW is enjoyable and engrossing, and re-read it.

Date: 2003-06-30 10:26 pm (UTC)Going to California's a short flight anyway, only about 5 hours. (I flew to CA by myself about 2 years ago.)
I'm trying to recall whether landing or taking off was worse. Both times I chewed my gun and held on really tightly to the arm rests.
