Okay, been thinking between orders. One of the local gamers, Kit, left one of the games we're both in recently, via sending an e-mail to the mailing list. She wasn't happy with playing in it, I know, but I still wonder about the specifics, and what it is she looks for in games. Mostly because I'm bored to heck in some of the games I play in as well, and I'm wondering if something new can start up someplace, at a time which would be comfortable for everyone she would want to get involved. Mostly because, if a game were to start and say, Kit was handling the DM duties, she might try and be selective about who's in it. I hope it's the case, ebcause I know I'm getting on that list.
Odd. One thing about her is this. She hates it when female characters, PCs, and NPCs, are portrayed in a way she feels are offensive to women. Yet, her characters...seem to reinforce the worse stereotypes of it. One is a Gnome rogue that she always describes as top-heavy, another is a human barbarian that I'm almost positive has a chainmail bikini, and an Intelligence of 8. Another, according to John, is constantly spending a lot of in-game time knocking boots with his charatcer. So, this is why I wonder what she looks for, when what she says is very different than what she does.
And, she constantly speaks out about how she sees female gamers being treated in-game and out-of-game by the male players. The comments, and all the other stuff. Of course, this is the same Kit who admitted to me she flashed one of our GMs for XP.
What I will say one day when she speaks of it again. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Female gamers have all these problems. Well, guess what, sweehtheart? Some of us have it a whole lot fucking worse than YOU ever will."
But, for now, I bide my time, and I wonder. I will send out an e-mail more than likely, see if I can get her to vent.
