Ok, today was humid. Usual here for early September, but still, after an air-conditioned car and house, going outside is like walking into a pure wall of heat. But, the t-storm that happened right after I got home will probably cool things off a bit, even if it means no net access in the meantime.

So, with this sudden urge of free time, I caught up on some reading (Sky of Swords, by Dave Duncan), and some TV. I caught Samurai Jack on CN. I've been skipping it for no real reason that I was normally weatching something else at the time. And what I caught tonight was obviously Episode One.

Ok, the story starts off with the Emperor telling about how three Japanese monks forged a kick-ass katana for him, as a younger man, to go layeth the smacketh down on Aku, an Evil Wizard. He tells this to his son, who will become the 'Jack' from the title. Well, Aku comes back, and opens up the Can of Whoop-Ass (tm) on Japan, and the Emperor sends his young son away.

Now, the next 10-15 minutes is Jack's childhood. He learns horse-riding in Arabian lands, Quarterstaff fighting in Central Africa, reading and writing and all sorts of smart shit in Egypt, traditional Greco-Roman Wrestling in Greece, Archery from, apparently, Robin Hood (which places this story somewhere, according to legend, in the AD 1300's or so, but I digress). Then, it's seamanship with the Vikings, axe-throwing in Russia, More horse-mounted fighting in Mongolia, ass-whipping Shao-Lin monks in Tibet, then he finds his mother in a mountaintop Buddhist temple in Nepal, where she gives him his dad's sword, that beautiful Katana.

All of that, and not one word of dialogue. That was damn beautiful, if I say so myself. Very nicely done, telling the story like that. Neat stuff.

Ok, signing off now. WWF is on, which is a discussion for another night.
