Heroes, 10/29/07 "The Line" Thoughts.

I swear, I'm happy I can keep track of the stories on this show. There's a lot going on. Of course, one of the first things we see is a replacement Jackie the Bitchy CHeerleader for Claire. I wonder if cheerleaders feel offended by that?

Heck, they even open up pre-credits with Monica watching gymnastics, and doing awesome things, only for Ugly Man Bob to come in and tell Mohinder that they have to take away their powers. Not even HRG is helpful, which might be out of character for him. I'd rather they didn't take Monica away, and that Mohinder gets over his case of the NoBalls and gets her out of there.

And back to Sylar. God, this guy is annoying. Maya is such a wuss to buy into his story, but he is leaving out the part where he killed all those people. So, does Maya represent that part of fandom that excuses all his evil?

Hiro is still in Japen. I'm cool with that, but I hope to see the fight scene.

Noah's in Russia, shaking down a guy for information. And...the Hatian is still badass. I just wish I understood what HRG's long-range plans were, with specifics. :P

I think doing this as I watch the show isn't the best thing, mostly because I have a lot less time to come up with some wordplay as I go through this.

But I like that CLaire's not completely naive, and...her and West are up to something. No idea what, though.

And yes, Mohinder grew a pair!

The writers want us to dislike West. They're trying so damn hard. Even if it makes the new head cheerleader look stupid.

See, I want this all to go somewhere. Mohinder should have taken Molly, Monica, and even Niki, and busted the hell out of there right after stomping Bob into bacon mist. Hiro needs to get out of feudal Japan, too. I want to see him back interacting with the other characters. And Kensei...I don't like him. I don't know why, but I don't.

Hiro...save spacetime or get the girl? Not bad.

And...what, Maya can't hear Sylar expound on his evil plan? Which was like his last evil plan. His...originality is lacking. A Lot. Well, he didn't have much to begin with. Die, Sylar, die.

And Noah? Damn, that was pretty cold.

And Kensei? Needs to get the fuck over himself.

But Bob? Damn, what's his angle with Monica now? He wants something.

You know West is listed under "The Scrappy" on the TV Tropes wiki. He's in need of a good smack.

And then we have Maya and sa hermano. Wow, two people from South of the border who cross over with no jobs, criminals, bringing diseases and looking to mooch off of some American medical services. Sounds like every Minuteman Border Guard's worst nightmare.

Good thing Pee Wee was there to tell Irish Girl what year it was. They use a different calender in Ireland and all.

Actually, I've decided that for the moment, I'm ... relatively okay with Sylar's presence. If he doesn't get his powers back, but stays a corruptive influence/mentor on a young & impressionable hero, I'm actually fine with that. I mean, boy is EEVIL and needs to be stopped, but from a more literary standpoint, I'm much better with his role as a corruptive influence than being set up as the Big Bad Yet Again. Or even as the Big Bad Bait-And-Switch Yet Again. Either of those would show a decided lack of imagination on the writers' part, since it would be the same as Season 1.

As far as Monica goes ... possibly Bob dusted the iPod with Virus 1.5. Regardless, she's certainly being set up to become St. Joan, which is awesome. Speaking of which, did you notice the St. Joan sign/poster in the background in the very last shot?

I was v. glad that Mohinder finally borrowed a pair. Perhaps he got Matt's, since we had no Matt this week, and Matt's definitely come and go semi-randomly. Sadly, Suresh had to give them back all too soon.

Kensai's being set in place to pop back up in the modern storyline, and to have a reason to do so. Love Hiro to death, but dude. Some things aren't worth the kiss. Leave time frozen, get the kiss, then back off and unfreeze it again. You're already the dragon. (Gee, who made Kensai into a hero again?) You're going to ask for her in the future. Chill.

And Yay monica keeping her powers. But yeah he so wants something.

I think West is supposed to be like anti Peter Parker instead of 'With Great Powers... Come Great Responsibility'

Mebbe Claire ends up hooking up with Alejandro in the end.. he seems like a nice slightly older boy. Mebbe.

Oh and did anyone else think that Nikki came off kinda of Stepford Wifey?

She acteed much more like Jessica than Nikki. I'm thinking The Company's idea of curing her might be to suppress Nikki rather than the much-more-useful-to-them Jessica.

Good idea about Adam. Adam is also one of the Original Members of the Twelve or whatever they call themselves privately.

After that little speach, I can't see anyone thinking Sylar is ever going to be 'sympathetic'.

I think rather than the Writers wanting us to actively dislike West, they want to show that not everyone is going to use their powers in a responsible way. Not too much real mischief you can get into with flight, though.

I'm not totally getting fan's love of Sylar myself as if he's an actual person who shouldn't be punished severely for all he's done (maybe because it's fiction that reactions aren't so great). This season I'm liking him as more than last (well that could be because he's done a lot less in the pure freakin' evil department) but not more in the sense of character warmth, I'm liking his villainess a lot more.
