Noonish, and waking up an hour early today by accident has its drawbacks, in that I really would rather be in bed at the moment. I'm rested, since...well, okay, not as much as I'd like, but I'm a touch headachey, and that is never a good thing. Especially with the phones ringing. Especially since it looks like it will not stop any time soon.

I was trying to seek out something new to read this morning. Oddly, I can even look authors I used to read, and find nothing new (the scary thing is that some authors I purely adore have almost no presence or following on the Net. I think I was the only one who ever read Tom Deitz) or something new that isn't what I want. And I've been on a 'not getting attached' kick lately, with reading. I read comics: it's like if I even think I like a book, it gets cancelled on me. It's depressing.

Still headachey.

Ah, Tom Deitz. You're not the only one. He got into my favorite genre of modern fantasy for a while (though I prefer more subtle than, say, the Borderlands books), so I've read at least some of his stuff. And the Appalachian/Celtic blend was fairly well done, at least for a while.

He's no Powers or DeLint, but he's fun. He's been to Dragon*Con a couple of times, including on one cool panel with Tim Powers.

Tim Powers (the one book I read by him was your recommendation, if I remember right) and Deitz on a panel? *swooon*

Darn...I want to ask Deitz so many questions. I liked the Sullivan Cove series. Sure, I wasyounger, but...hell, I found myself asking 'why can't I have friends like that' Well, save for the Fae and Monsters and demons aspect.

I think Christopher Moore's latest is out now. A Christmas novel called "The Stupidest Angel" or something. You said you liked the books of his I sent you.

Have you ever read Philip Roth? I'm reading one of his now. Good stuff.

Roth rings a bell somewhere, but I'm not sure if I've read any of his stuff.

The Stupidest Angel? It is an offshot of Lamb?

I don't think so, though Moore does seem to set everything in the same sort of universe. Roth is one of the great American novelists of our time. The one I am reading, Portnoy's Complaint is a rant from a successful Jewish guy holding himself up as better than everyone else and bitching about his parents to a psychiatrist. It's a comedy, and the narrator is a very vivid character.
